Truffles and Treats Master Class a Delicious Success

Haworth Fairtrade Group held another successful event on Friday 30th November. Sandy Docherty, a former contestant on the Great British Bake Off, and expert bread maker Mike Armstrong, aka “Baker Mike”,  conducted a Truffles and Treats Master Class to support fundraising for West Lane Baptist Chapel community kitchen.

Sandy and Mike wowed the audience with their superb skills and delicious bakes. They showed just how easy it is to make beautiful food incorporating fair trade ingredients.

A big thank you to our local Oxenhope Co-op and the folks at Divine Chocolates for the scrumptious chocolates and goodies they provided to help make the evening a success.

Haworth Fairtade Village celebrates a decade

10 Years After

We are very pleased to be able to remind ourselves and to tell you that we have now been a Fairtrade Village for 10 years. To mark that event we had a little get together in the Old Hall pub on Monday 3 December at 7.oopm. Chris Upton and Rita Verity spoke to mark the occasion and many people came to help us celebrate and brought their ideas for the next 10 years. Many thanks to Ian Palmer for the photograph below. Find more of his photos of the event on the Haworth Village website here.

10 Year Anniversary Cake

Chris Upton, Rita Verity, Liz Barker, Ann Wiles and Annie Williams celebrate with cake!

90kg Rice Challenge

As a group we participated in the 90KG challenge and sold the lot to help farmers in Malawi send their children to school.

Fairtrade Fortnight 2013

Fairtrade Fortnight is from Monday 25 February to Sunday 10 March 2013!

Fairtrade Fortnight 2013

Next year it’s time to take a stand for the food we love and the people who grow it. Without our support now, farmers in developing countries face an uncertain future.

In 2012 we asked everyone to take a step for Fairtrade and nearly 1 million steps have been registered so far. But there’s still so much more to do. In 2013 we want to take Fairtrade further and we need your help to reach more farmers and workers who urgently need a better deal from trade.

Together, we’ll be part of a UK-wide movement speaking up about the injustices that mean farmers in poorer countries struggle to make ends meet.

More Fairtrade Fortnight 2013 news coming soon.

Fair Intents 2011

Our second Ecofair was held in Haworth on Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 September. Lots of sustainable activities went on again. Have a look at the Fair Intents website to find out more but before you go over there have a listen to John Drury’s song George that we recorded recently.

Fair Trade Way

Good news time. The Fair Trade Way has been launched. Have a look at the website and maybe even have a go at a day or 6!

The Fair Trade Way is a long-distance footpath is designed as a 6-day walk between Garstang (The World’s first Fairtrade Town) and Keswick (A very active Fairtrade Town). It is designed to promote the positive impact that using Fairtrade products can have on the lives of people who suffer whilst they produce the resources that we in the more wealthy countries consume in our everyday lives. On this route, walkers are encouraged to use Fairtrade food, drinks and accommodation serving Fairtrade products when they are walking.

Fair Intents was an Eco-Fair held over the weekend of the 11/12 September 2010. Music, stalls and information were all in the Bronte Parsonage Meadow for those 2 days. The event was ambitious but highly successful with well over 1500 people attending. The event will be held again on the second weekend in September 2011. For more information have a look at the Fair Intents website. The video below shows just some of the activities that went on on the Saturday. Come and join us next year. More information will be available on both sites nearer the event.

Fairtrade Fortnight 2011

FTF 2011

For Fairtrade Fortnight 2011 the Fairtrade Foundation is asking the nation to show off about buying Fairtrade and the impact it has on producers.

We want everyone to get loud and proud about Fairtrade, whether it’s the cake they baked using Fairtrade sugar or the Fairtrade products they stock and sell.
